We regret to announce the passing of our dear father, brother and friend, Reuben Drakes, a resident of the Northside Guest Home, and formerly of Clifford Street, North Sydney. Reuben died Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Grand Bank, N.L., he was the son of the late Onslow and Annie Drakes.
Reuben worked aboard Marine Atlantic vessels for most of his life, retiring in 1989. He was a veteran of the Second World War serving with the Merchant Marine.
He is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Compton, Twillingate, N.L.; two grandchildren, Scott and Renee; his brothers, Norman Drakes, Grand Bank, N.L., and Onslow, of Ontario; several nieces and nephews; as well as his close friends and caregivers, Austin and Sheila Pyke.
He was predeceased by his wife, Harriet (Rose) Drakes and his sister, Frances.
There will be no visitation by request. Funeral service will be held Sunday, 3 p.m. from the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ritchie Robinson officiating. Burial at a later date in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
