Doris Elizabeth (Purdy) MacLennan born December 27, 1923 of Sydney Mines passed away April 8, 2011 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Sydney with her loving daughters by her side.
Born and raised in Shelburne Nova Scotia she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Catherine (Aker) Purdy (D' Entremont).
Doris was a member of Carman United Church. She worked at the People's Store and Sexton's Pharmacy for many years.
She enjoyed playing cards and travelling and in her earlier years she also enjoyed curling. She was an active member of the IODE.
She was creative, and enjoyed sewing and knitting. Her needle points were works of art. Doris was an independent woman who was known for her sense of style.
The light of her life in recent years were her great grandchildren Logan, Ethan, Liam, Allie, Eli, and Madison. Doris is survived by her daughters Cathy (Darrell Whitman) Steele, Sheila (Winston) Billard, grandchildren Jason (Lexie) Billard, Aaron (Lori- Ann) Billard, Zachary (Tanya) Steele, Keir (Kathy) Steel, Victoria (Terry) Steele, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents Doris was predeceased by her husband Warren (Doc) MacLennan; daughter Arlie Beth Kay; sisters Violet, Goldie, and Hazel; brothers Ansel, Elmer, and Arlie and best friend John E. C. MacDonald.
Visitation for Doris MacLennan will be held Monday April 11, 2011, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the J.M. Jobes Funeral Home 635 Main St., Sydney Mines. A celebration of her life will take place Tuesday April 12 at 2 p.m. in Carman United Church Sydney Mines with Rev. Nick Phillips and Rev. Aaron Billard officiating with burial in Brookside Cemetery Sydney Mines.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Carman United Church Building Fund.
