CRAWFORD (MacLeod), Ruth Christina – 92. Our loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Friday evening, April 8, 2011, at The Mira Long Term Care Centre, Truro. Born on April 27,1918, in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late John D. and Ina (Herring) MacLeod. Along with her parents, Ruth was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Carman B. Crawford; eldest daughter, Linda Crawford Teasdale; brothers, Arthur (Peggy) MacLeod and Kenny (Tillie) MacLeod. Ruth is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and Bob Washburn, Carmie and Ian Anderson, Ina and Keith Beaver, and Dede (Janice) and Bruce Hickey; grandchildren, Crawford (Heily), Andrew and Jason Teasdale, Geoffrey, Ruth Anne, Heather (Steve) and David (Emily) Washburn, Michael (Elizabeth), Mark, Heath (Alison) and Jamie Anderson, Janice (Matt), Alison and Gregor Beaver, and Clare Hickey; great-grandchildren, Erica and Ella Teasdale, Mimi and Mia Teasdale, Meagan and Hannah Cohen, Calvin and Charlie Washburn, and Jane and Benjamin Anderson. Ruth grew up on Catherine Street, Whitney Pier, and worked at T. Eaton Company in Sydney prior to her marriage to Carman during the war in 1940. Ruth, Carman and family lived in Sydney for many years and then Truro, enjoying each summer in Ingonish with family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where a celebration of Ruth’s life will be held 4 p.m., Tuesday, April 12, 2011, Reverend John Tonks officiating.
