It is with great sadness the family of Claude Rochon age 60, of Amherst announce his passing on Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at home.
Born in Ottawa, ON he was a son of Jeannette Lanoue (John Wilson) of Gatineau, QC and the late Benoit Rochon.
Claude enjoyed camping with his children and had a passion for the outdoors and was an avid runner. He did a lot of traveling both with his work and pleasure and in his later years traveled with his wife Ann to many countries.
Claude was a millwright by trade starting when he was eighteen years old. This trade took him all over the world including China where he taught the Chinese how to work in a paper mill. In his later years he was self employed as a millwright and retired from Stenek's in Amherst due to illness.
Claude was very compassionate and kind and always enjoyed lending a helping hand to anyone in need.
He had a passion for the ocean and enjoyed lobster fishing with his brother in law and good friend David.
Claude loved children and his grandchildren were very special to him and he will be sadly missed by all the children's lives that he has touched.
Besides his mother, Claude is survived by his loving wife Ann, two daughters Nathalie (Roch Beland) Rochon and Claudine (Dominique Cossette) Rochon both of Gatineau, QC, five grandchildren Sebastien, Frederic, Marie-Eve, Samuel and Maude, three sisters Ginette (Marcel) Sans-Cartier of Guelph, ON, Francine (Richard Constineau) Rochon of Gatineau and Manon (Serge Charron) Rochon of Perkins, QC, three brothers Denis (Sylvie Baron) Rochon of Gatineau, Daniel (Marie Isabelle Levaque) Rochon of Orleans, ON and Alain (Francine Proulx) Rochon of Ripon, QC and many nieces and nephews.
Claude will also be sadly missed by his Amherst family, Suzanne Speight, Shayne (Ruth Ann Dowe) Speight,Grace (Barry) Williams, Dawn (Bruce) Fage, Glynn (Shelley Polley) Speight, Susan (David) Ferdinand and Tracey Speight and their children, who thought the world of "Mac Gyver".
Besides his father, he is predeceased by a granddaughter Chloe.
His remains are resting at Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906) with visiting on Saturday, August 1, 2009 from 7-9 p.m.
Funeral service will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. from Campbell's Chapel with Mr. Ken Taylor officiating.
Interment will take place in the Amherst Cemetery.
