It is with great sadness that we, the family of Edward Joseph Dwyer, announce his passing on Sunday, May 28, 2017, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Dad was the son of the late Bernard and Anne (Healey) Dwyer. He was born in Holyrood, Nfld. on February 9, 1933.
Surviving are his children, Cathy (John) Yorfino, Loretta Grant, Debbie (Paul) MacNeil, Bernie (Yolanda), Bobby (Terrilynn), Jerry (Angela), Leo (Honey) and Billy (Jennifer); daughter-in-law, Rose; 32 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and three more arriving within the next few months. He is also survived by his brothers, Bernie (Linda), Willie (Lorrie) and Leo; sisters, Belle (Jim), Helen (Bobby), Elaine (John) and Marie (Bobby); many nieces and nephews. Dad will be greatly missed by his loving companion, Florence Hasuik and her son, Kenny, who have both provided ongoing support and care throughout the years. Kenny was like a son to dad.
Dad was predeceased by his wife, Louise (MacNeil); sons, Edward and Kevin; sister, Theresa.
He was retired from the Sydney Steel Plant. Dad was well-known for his expert craftsmanship in the flooring trade, such as carpeting, ceramic tiling, etc. He also worked as an iron worker and rigger. Dad enjoyed fishing, hunting and travelling.
A special thank you to the staff and doctors on 4B at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital who took such great care of dad and also, to his cousin, Billy Corbett for being there for him.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday, June 2 from 1-3 p.m., followed by a service in the chapel at 3 p.m., Rev. Reg MacDonald officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery.
