Raymond Joseph Whalen, 58, Grant Street, Sydney, passed away Friday, July 31, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of Theresa (Duffney) Whalen and the late James Whalen.
Raymond was a member of Holy Redeemer Church. For 27 years, he was employed with the Co-op Grocery Store, Sydney. At the time of his death, Raymond was employed with Co-op Atlantic, Keltic Drive, Sydney.
Surviving are his wife, Agnes (Johnson); daughters, Agnes Marie Whalen, Perry Sound, Ont. and Raylene (Rob) Stewart, Kelowna, BC; sons, Raymond Joseph (Jennifer), Sydney, James Matthew (Shavon), Saint John, NB and Adam Patrick, Ft. McMurray, AB; sisters, Patricia Hillier, Hamilton, Debbie Hillier, Digby, Alice Lannigan, Hamilton and Valerie (Roger) Burke, Howie Centre; brothers, Jimmy (Sharon), Howie Centre, Brian (Helen), St. Peters, Ronnie (Karen), Sydney River and Murdock (Liz), Sydney; eight grandchildren, Anthony, Kynnadee, Chantel, Dylan, Scott, Suade, Dixie and Liam.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at Holy Redeemer Church on Monday 11 a.m., with Rev. Errol MacDonald officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
