It is with great sadness that we, the family of Maxine Young announce her passing at the age of 49. She passed away peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009.
Born in Sydney Mines, Maxine was the daughter of Sarah (Finlayson) Young and the late William (Billy) Young.
She was a member of St. Stephen’s parish, Florence. She worked at National Sea until the fishery closed. Later, she was employed at the Keltic Lodge in Ingonish.
Maxine will always be remembered for her love of animals big or small. She made sure every animal was fed, especially the small ones that lived around her home in Ingonish. She loved to watch movies, cook, and visit, and loved being visited by family and friends.
She is survived by her best friend and love of her life, Ward Brooks, Ingonish; mother, Sarah Young, Florence; sisters, Roxanne (Jamie) Swain, Florence, Debbie (Paul) Smith, Ontario, and Ruth (Glen) Gear, Florence. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Joan Brooks, North Sydney; sister-in-law, Lynne (Ronnie) Ivey, Millville; brothers-in-law, Gary Brooks and Jason Brooks, both of North Sydney; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her father, William Young, and father-in-law, Irvin Brooks.
Maxine’s care has been entrusted to J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, where visitation will take place Tuesday, Aug. 4, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass to celebrate her life will be held Wednesday, at 10 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Church, Florence, with Fr. Thomas John officiating. Her burial will be at a later date.
Donations in Maxine’s memory may be made to Palliative Care or the SPCA.
