MILDRED CHUCKREY

MILDRED CHUCKREY

August 22, 1923 - June 19, 2017
Born in Vancouver, the eldest daughter to Harry and Lois McGhee. She led a long adventurous life, first with her husband Fred Taylor (deceased June 1964) with whom she raised two daughters, Patricia and Colleen. As she approached her retirement years she reconnected with her husband's family and married one of his brothers, our Uncle Niel. In 1983 when Niel retired they moved to Halfmoon Bay and built their house on Alderwood. Mildred and Niel joined the Welcome Beach Community Hall and helped with organizing many fund-raising events. Mildred also volunteered at Shorncliffe Care Home playing scrabble with many of the residents for more than 20 years.
Mildred and Niel were always on the go every winter. First their camping adventures to and from Mexico and then settling into multiple trips to Europe and many cruises. Mildred was always a great correspondent and when the computer age came along she jumped on the Internet bandwagon and took some courses at the local library. This allowed her to keep in contact with the ever-expanding family of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. It also put her in touch with some long-lost cousins as she discovered genealogy research.
Mildred is survived by many family: daughters Pat Audet (Ben), Colleen Zirk (Paul), step-sons Ian (JoAnn), Peter (Shelley), grandchildren Barbara (Tom), Chuck (Fani), Jacquie (James), Andrew (Dena), Nicholas (Laura), Michael (Jordyn), Lesley (Gianmarco), Rebecca, Katelyn, Daniel; great- grandchildren Darian, Micaela, Benjamin, Reid, Dahlia, Angus and Katerina, and good friends Marion, Kelly and neighbor Kerry (always ready with a glass of red wine).
A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, July 5 at 2pm, Boal Chapel, Lillooet Road, North Vancouver. Reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to BC Cancer Society.
