McCann, Sylvia Rosecina. Age 79, of Windsor, Nova Scotia, passed away Friday, June 30, 2017 in the QEII Halifax Infirmary, Halifax.
Sylvia was born August 5, 1937 in Leminster, Nova Scotia. She attended school in Hants County and at Edgehill School and Kay Anslow Business School. The love and meaning of Sylvia’s life was her family and friends. She married her soulmate, lifelong partner and husband of 59 years, Donald C. McCann. Together they were a focal point for the children of their Stanford Street neighborhood and later their family in their Curry’s Corner home. Sylvia was a renowned listener, with undaunted optimism who always understood the good in people. Her “farm girl” work ethic was contagious and she was consistently concerned with the needs of others. It was important to Sylvia that those closest to her understood “that life goes on.” In addition to her husband, Sylvia is survived by daughters, Kelley, Marlyn and Peggy; son, Burton (Jane); grandchildren, Maggie and Donald G.S.; sisters, Gloria (Mike) Fogarty, Marlyn (Jim) Pemberton and Marion Hebb; close friends, Barb McDonald and Annie Bayne. She is predeceased by her parents Rena (Keddy) and Carl Hebb, sister, Sharon (Barrie) Salter and brother, Charles “Buddy” (Norma) Hebb. Sylvia and the family wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Victorian Order of Nurses, the Hants Community Hospital Staff, Dr. Valerie Lewis, Dr. Sanju Mishra and, most recently, the exceptionally kind nurses and staff of 8.2 of the Halifax Infirmary. Arrangements were entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 5 in Windsor United Baptist Church, 411 King St., Windsor, where Rev. Rob Heffernan officiated. Interment took place in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor. A reception followed in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Sylvia may be made to the VON.
