JACOB ELDER
We are saddened to announce the passing of Jacob Elder on Thursday, July 30, 2009, after a long battle with cancer. Jacob was born to Joesph and Maryann (nee Senger) Elder on January 30, 1946 in rural Elstow, SK. He met and married his true love, Ruth Bergen in 1966. They raised four daughters and numerous foster children. In 1978, they moved to Prince Albert where his love of cooking took him to the Riverbend Institution to teach the inmates. Even though his health was failing in 2006, he still was involved in his work and family. Always proving the doctors wrong when he was told he couldn’t do something and never giving up. Jacob is survived by his loving family: his wife of 43 years Ruth; his four daughters Debbie, Vickie (Tim), Judy (Daniel) and Janice; his seven grandchildren Angelia, Brady, Anthony, Bryton, Jurnee, Serenity and Daelyn; his three brothers Arnold (Marie), Andrew and Joesph (Charlene); his two sisters Marie and Eva (Wally); his sisters-in-law Joan and Eva (Mike); numerous foster children, grandchildren; great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Joesph and Maryann; his brother Henry; his mother-in-law and father-in-law. Prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4 from River Park Memorial Chapel. Mrs. Margaret Ferchuk will officiate. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 5 from St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, 1505 – 13 Street West by Father Travis Myr. Interment of cremated remains will take place at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. It is the family’s request that anyone wishing to place memorials may do so to the Canadian Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Phil Fredette, Funeral Director.
