We regret to announce the passing of Daniel Macaulay on July 17, 2017 at Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck. Born May 13, 1936, he was the son of the late Ross and Annabelle Macaulay of Englishtown. Graduating from Baddeck Rural High School, Daniel always had excellent math skills. Daniel was an avid sailor and was an honorary member of the Bras d'Or Yacht Club. He was also a longstanding member of St. Marks Lodge, and the Progressive Conservative Party. He volunteered his bookkeeping skills to aid many organizations and he especially enjoyed being outdoors, taking great pleasure in clearing snow and mowing lawns for neighbors and friends.
Daniel was predeceased by his daughter, Brenda; brother, Angus, and sisters, Donna, Ruth and Mary Catherine, who died in infancy.
He is survived by son, Darren (Lauri), along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Sincere thanks to goes out to Daniel's special friend and neighbor, Laurie Anne Fitzgerald, whose kindness never went unnoticed.
Many thanks to Dr. Chow for being a devoted doctor and friend to Daniel over the years. As well, the family would like to thank Dr. Heughan, Dr. Ritter and the nurses and staff of Baddeck Hospital for the outstanding care Daniel received over the past several weeks.
In honouring Daniel's final wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of MacAskill's Funeral Home. Visitation will be at Knox Presbyterian Church, Baddeck on Thursday July 20 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. with Masonic and Eastern Star services to follow.
