Gary Dunphy
Born: June 14th, 1955
Passed in: Canada
Passed on: April 18th, 2017
On April 18, 2017 our brother left us to be reunited with our Mom (Dorothy Dunphy nee Power), and Dad (Lewis Dunphy). We lost not only a brother but our friend. He left behind so many memories and so much love. His son Danny Jackson whom he would do anything for, his daughter in law Marcia who was a guardian angel, forever helping him in any way possible, his step son James Biso, his go to guy, his daughter in law Carla who was always there to help him walk the straight line! His love and pride for his grandchildren Shianne, Sierra, Sadie and Jada was surpassed by none as was obvious by the dozens of pictures of them around his bed and the constant stories he had to tell about them. Gary loved spending time with his nephews Colin, Dale and Lee Melvin. Nothing made him happier than the family BBQ’s with them and their beautiful families. He followed all the travels of his nephew Scott Melvin and his family and cherished the times they were able to actually talk so he could hear all about them. He loved hearing about his niece Christa Butler and her lovely family. Gary always looked forward to his visits from his nephews Liam, Sheehan, Brennan and his niece Meaghan Hagerty. Not only did he get great company from them but he knew they would bring their Mom and he would have another opportunity to torture her! Due to the fact that Gary lived away from “home” for so many years he didn’t have the opportunity to keep in touch with his numerous aunts and uncles and cousins but he always asked about them in his calls. He absolutely loved the calls and cards from Uncle Ned (Dunphy) and Uncle Rick (Power).
Gary was his own person from the day he was born. He lived the Frank Sinatra attitude “ I Did it My Way”! He worked at various jobs from labourer to automotive. He loved his cars!!! Gary was one of the most family oriented, generous and non-judgmental persons we will ever have had the honor to learn from. He faced his trials and tribulations, as we all do, but he did it with a smile. He never complained. He always had a smile on his face and a joke on his lips. We, his sisters, Thelma Melvin (Austin) and (Juanita) Dawn Hagerty are going to miss our daily calls. We will miss the unbridled appreciation he gave for every second we shared with him. We will hold on to his sense of humor, his dedication to family and his ability to enjoy life for all it has to offer.
There will be a graveside service on August 5, 2017 2:00 p.m.at the Tors Cove Cemetery officiated by Deacon Des Keating. A Celebration of life will be held following the service at his cousin Janice Harrigan’s in Witless Bay. Please feel free to come and share a story, a laugh, a drink and a snack. In the words of Gary “Let’s git ‘er done!”
