Passed in: Middleton, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: July 30th, 2017

Dodwell, Richard “Rick” George, Middleton, NS. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard “Rick” George Dodwell, age 59 of Middleton on July 30, 2017. Born in Middleton, he was a son of the late Dorothy Eileen (George) and James Dodwell. Richard is survived by his spouse Johanne Perreault; daughters Tara Perreault (Tim Barr), Sara Carlson (Chance Bower), Angela Carlson of Alberta and Kelly Deveau of Halifax; sons R.J. Carlson and Joey Carlson (friend, Fiona Hensley); brothers Gary of Vietnam, David of British Columbia and Robert of New Minas. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Brian. Rick was a good father and his children mattered to him. He will be missed on every happy and sad occasion we go through as a family. He was proud of all his children. He always got up early and would cook Christmas dinner and dinners for all the special occasions. It made Johanne happy that he enjoyed doing that and his gravy and potato salad was the best; it will be hard to match. Richard loved camping at a nice lake and just recently enjoyed a nice canoe trip with Johanne. He was a good mechanic and could also do some carpentry. He started a business of building baby barns which was very successful; but later became Nanny's caregiver which became a 24/7 occupation for him. Richard was easygoing and strangers felt comfortable starting conversations with him. He worked in the oil industries in Alberta for 20 years before coming back to Nova Scotia to raise his children. His hobby was designing web sites and he learned a lot in the process. He liked keeping busy and could always find something to do. At times Richard could see right through the kids and what they were up to; often with great accuracy. It was hard to pull the wool over his eyes and more often than not, he was right! He wanted his children to understand that there are always consequences to their actions. He loved them and was so proud of all of them. He wanted his kids to become the best they could be. His family shared many precious moments with Richard, which will help sustain them in their sorrow. In keeping with Richard’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held at 4 PM, Friday, August 4th in Holy Cross Cemetery, Kentville, with Father John MacPherson officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow in the upstairs room at the Root Restaurant, 7182 Hwy 1, Coldbrook (please use the side door and not the outside staircase.) Donations in memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or a charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448. Online guestbook may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
