Reginald (Reg) McKinnon

Reginald (Reg) McKinnon (Sept 10, 1933 - July 30, 2017) passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital in Toronto, Ont. Born and raised in Brae, P.E.I., Reg was predeceased by beloved parents, John and Eileen McKinnon (PEI) and four sisters - Alice Duncan (Alan), Lorraine Rees (John), Louise Moser (Jerry), and Joyce. Five sisters survive him - Marie Williams (Bud), Joan Keefe (Earl), Christine Crosland (Allan), Jeanne MacPhee (Beau), and Helen Obendorfer (Mirko). Reggie was a man of principle, a proud warrior who faced challenges with one motto: “Never give in!” Gentle and sensitive of heart, he was tough as nails, uncompromising in matters of honesty and integrity. Reg had a very strong work ethic. Employers would find him reliable, trustworthy and capable. He retired at age 65, then started his own business, 'Best Sharpening', faithfully serving his valued customers for more than a decade. Witty and well informed, Reg much enjoyed spirited conversation and earnest political debate, and was a proud member of the PC Party. Family mattered. Reggie was a devoted son, a much loved brother, an endearing uncle to 17 loving nieces and nephews and their children, and a true friend to many. He will be sadly missed. Much gratitude to the special caregivers for their compassion and unconditional kindness. A special tribute to Lisa, a loyal friend, and to Helen, Reggie’s faithful sister. They rescued him, brought sunshine to his suffering, and with love and constancy made his final journey bearable, and often joyful. Burial will take place at a later date in Brae, P.E.I. Open House Celebration of Life - Sunday, August 6th, 2-5 p.m., 783 Oxford Street, Toronto
