JANET HL MACTAVISH

JANET HL MACTAVISH

October 9, 1937 - July 31, 2017
July 31, 2017, in the sunshine of a glorious summer afternoon, Janet Hendrie Lawson Mactavish took peaceful leave. The pride and joys of life, her children and grandchildren, were close in presence and spirit in sending her off.
A courageous, feisty, independent and generous spirit, Janet was a great lover of sport, books, music, art, and animals. Sharing time with her family and wide circle of friends, be it in travel or enjoying the pleasure of good food and lively conversation were among her fondest of pastimes.
Born October 9, 1937 in Motherwell, Scotland, the beloved daughter of Archibald and Catherine Mason and sister to cherished older brother Ian. Janet married Malcolm Mactavish in Dunblane Cathedral in 1957, arriving in Vancouver shortly thereafter on a honeymoon that became a 60 year love affair with the west coast.
Janet always worked outside the home, well before this was the norm. During the early years this revolved around medical clinic administration and concluded as a long time employee of BC Ferries.
Of all her years in Canada, many were spent in and around Sechelt. This was the home of her heart, a place that nourished and enriched her and her deep love for family and friends.
Janet joins her parents, brother Ian, husband Malcolm and the many family and friends that have gone before her. She is survived by her loving children, Elaine (Rick) Thomas, Jennifer Mactavish (Kelly MacKay), and Ian Mactavish; and her adoring grandchildren.
The family extends deep gratitude to the wonderful and deeply caring team of palliative care nurses who supported Mom's final journey.
A celebration of life will take place at a time and date yet to be determined.
Remember me, as I remember you
With love,
With laughter,
With gratitude,
For the journey shared, for the life well lived.
With full heart, for I am free, you will find me
Rising with the sun,
Waltzing with the breeze,
Lapping at the shore,
Buzzing with the hummingbirds,
Shining with the stars.
I am free,
Remember me, as I remember you.
