ALICE HOGEWEIDE
Alice Eva Hogeweide, (nee Bayes) age 99 years, 6 months, of Prince Albert, SK passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2009. She was born on January 24, 1910 in the County of Grey, Maxwell, ON to James Bayes and Rosina Rachel Louise Palmer. Her siblings were a brother William and two sisters Ellen Rose and Lily May. The family moved from Ontario to Melfort and then into Prince Albert where Alice met Henry “Hank” Hogeweide. They were married on November 5, 1933. Alice is survived by her loving family: her three sons James (Lenore) of Saskatoon and her granddaughter Faith (Randy) Penner [great-grandchildren Jessica and Jarrett]; Bud (Donna) of Lethbridge and grandson Brian [great-granddaughter Marissa]; grandson Greg [great-grandchildren Alexis and Ethan], granddaughters Jessica Maclean, Kimberly and Barry (Barb) of Prince Albert and granddaughters Alison, Lauren, Elizabeth. Alice and Hank and the boys spent many happy summers camping and fishing together in Prince Albert National Park. Alice remained at home to raise her children and she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in later years. Alice was active in the community with the Lions Club and was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #2. She also enjoyed curling, playing cards and cribbage with her family and friends. Alice and Hank lived at Mitchell Place from its opening in 1973 and acted as caretakers for the home and friends to those who lived there for many years. She lived independently after Hank’s death in 1986 and continued to do so until her stroke in 2004. Alice then moved to the Herb Bassett Nursing Home where she spent that last five years in the kind care of the staff. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Hank; her parents and her siblings. Funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 6 from River Park Memorial Chapel. Reverend Avonda McKay will officiate. Interment will take place in the South Hill Cemetery at a later date. It is the family’s request that in lieu of floral tributes, donations may be made to the Herb Bassett Nursing Home or to the charity of the donor’s choice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Lesley Sully, Funeral Director.
