Fr. Wilfred Borden, OMI, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2009, at Foyer Lacombe, St. Albert, AB, at the age of 79.
Son of James Borden and Anastasia Predergast, he was born to a family of 13 children in Donkin, NS, on May 8, 1929. Wilfred entered the Novitiate and pronounced his first vows on September 8, 1957, and was ordained a priest on June 9, 1963 in Ottawa. Fr. Borden was a teacher in Cluny, AB and St. Francis Xavier High School in Edmonton. He was a rector at Pangborn Hall, Nortre Dame, IN, and a chaplain at Thomas Aquinas College in Santa Paula, California. He retired to Foyer Lacombe in March 2007.
He is survived by a sister, Anastasia and brothers, Joe and John.
Predeceased by sisters, Mary, Agatha and Monica and brothers, Gus, Jamie, Tom, Robert, Bernard and Bill ‘Dinny’.
A memorial mass will take place at St. Gregory’s Church, Donkin, Friday, August 7, 2009 at 5 p.m., presider will be Father Edwards.
