Hazel McGuire

1928 - 2011 - It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Hazel M. McGuire of Woodstock, NB announces her passing on April 15, 2011 at the Victoria Glen Manor in Perth-Andover. Hazel was the daughter of the late Lorne and Rosalie (Flemming) Slipp, she was born at Bedell Settlement on January 11, 1928. Hazel was a life-long resident of Woodstock. She was a graduate of Carleton County Vocational School having received her diploma in Home Economics in 1948 and her diploma in the Commercial program in 1949. Through the years, Hazel worked for various firms and businesses in the Woodstock area; first as a legal secretary in the D.R. Bishop law firm; later she worked for Ned Depow and Eugene Bowlin in the office of Adjusters and Appraisers; part-time employment followed with Bertha West at Central Trust Branch and later still with Suther O’Regan, Pauline Forrest and staff at the School Board Office. Hazel was a long-time, faithful member of the congregation of St. James United Church of Canada. She was an active member of the United Church Women, having served as secretary of Unit 5 for a period of time. She was a devoted canvasser for the Woodstock Chapter of the Kidney Foundation for many years. Hazel is survived by her two loving daughters Sonya Sauntry (Ron) of Fredericton and Amber (Peter Linder) of Woodstock. Hazel had two grandchildren; David and Laura Sauntry of Fredericton, who will miss her dearly. She is also survived by her always faithful, close and loving family; sister Alma Gartley of Woodstock, NB; and two brothers - The Reverend Merrill Slipp (Ruth) and Winston Slipp of Fredericton, several nieces and nephews and her care-giver and special friend Roxanne Barrett. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Leo McGuire; brothers Wesley Slipp and Kenneth Slipp; brother-in-law Robert Gartley and sister-in-law Judy Slipp.
The family will receive visitors at The Culberson Funeral Home, 188 Connell Street, Woodstock, NB on Monday, April 18 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service to be held on Tuesday, April 19 at 11:00 a.m. at St. James United Church with Rev. Gil MacKenzie officiating. Interment to follow at a later date at St. Joseph Cemetery, Newburg, New Brunswick. For those who wish to make donations in memory of Hazel, the family has suggested the St. James United Church or any charity of the donor’s choice.
