Hughie Alexander Hutchinson
Hutchinson, Hughie Alexander – 78, Truro, formerly of Bible Hill, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2011 in Cedarstone Enhanced Care Facility, Truro, with his sister-in-law Linda by his side. Born in Truro on April 14, 1933, he was a loving father to Frank (April) Works Jr., Hugh Jr. (Crystal), Cathy (Victor) Benvie, Diana (Tony) Fielding, all of Truro; Jamie and Donna, British Columbia; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; brothers, John (Beverly), Walter (Joan); sisters Shirley Crowell (Marshall Hutt), Ruth (Hughie) Lambourne, all of Truro; companion Jane Patterson, numerous nieces and nephews. Hughie was predeceased by his parents, his wife Rose (Blair), brother Alec, sister Helena, infant brother Earl and a great-granddaughter. Dad spent most of his life in Truro. Many will remember him as one of the best goal tenders and an All-Star in the Truro District Hockey League. He later played with the Truro Bearcats and the New Glasgow Rangers in the APC Hockey League in the late 50’s and early 60’s. He served in the Korean War, was a 47 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #26 and a lifetime member of the Truro Horseman’s Club. He was also an avid hunter, fisherman and dart player. A family thank-you is extended to the wonderful staff of Garden Road, Cedarstone, for the care and kindness you extended to our Dad. We are forever grateful. Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 19th from 7-9pm, with funeral service on Wednesday, April 20th at 11am, Rev. Dan Gunn officiating. The funeral service will begin with a Royal Canadian Legion tribute service. All services held in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro. Interment in the Onslow Cemetery, Onslow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #26 Building Fund, the Truro Horseman’s Club or to a charity of choice.
