Fredonia "Freda" Gould, age 88, of Amherst, passed away peacefully at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Center on Monday, August 3, 2009 surrounded by her family.
Born in Petit Rocher, NB, she was the eldest daughter of the late Francois and Beatrice (Doucet) Doucet.
Freda moved to Amherst from Petit Rocher during the Second World War, working in the pants factory for 2 years. She married Bordie on Nov 6, 1944. She was a very talented seamstress and enjoyed quilting, rug hooking, gardening and watching sports. Freda especially cherished time spent with her family.
Freda was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, and will be sadly missed and always remembered by twin daughters, Carol (John) Gothreau and Rachel (Stewart) Smith, both of Amherst; 5 grandchildren, Kevin (Melissa) Smith, Lori (Andre) Leger, Patricia (Philip) Atkinson, Kimberly (David Baldwin) Smith, and Gina (Michael) Sasco; 4 great grandchildren, Taylor, Connor, Jordan and Alexander; caring sister and best friend Carmel Doucet, Amherst. Also survived by brother Rheal (Mildred) Doucet of Petit Rocher, NB and sister Helene Doucet, Valleyfield, QC. She was predeceased by a son George in 1990, her husband John "Bordie" in 2007 and by siblings, Edgar, Leonard, Ernest, Fernand, Gabriel and an infant brother Marius.
The remains are resting at the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst (902-667-8777) with visitation from 7 to 9 pm on Wednesday. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish Church, Amherst on Thursday, August 6, 2009 at 11 am. Burial in the St. Charles - Nativity Cemetery.
