Clifford Bernard ‘Bernie’ Doucet, 88, of Duffell Drive, Sydney, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Arsene and Beatrice (Hureau) Doucet.
Bernie was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend to everyone he met. He will be greatly missed by all.
Bernie was a veteran of the Second World War, serving in Scotland.
He was a member of Immaculate Heart parish and retired from DND at the radar base.
Bernie was the longest serving fire chief of the Mira Road Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 1060, Sydney, Club 55, the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 12 and Meals on Wheels. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed many rounds of golf with family and friends over the years.
Surviving are his wife, Mary (Delaney); daughters, Celeste (William) Axworthy, Yarmouth, Patricia (Bernard) Doucette, Sydney, and Denise (Marc) Laurence, Sudbury, Ont.; sons, Raymond (Linda) and Frank (Debbie), Sydney, and Robert (Christine), Dartmouth; sisters, Antionette Landry, Moncton, Margaret Paradis, Montreal, and Leomay (Tom) Dewling, Brantford, Ont.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Bernie was predeceased by his sisters, Stella, Lillia and Doris and brother, Joseph.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., with a Knights of Columbus prayer held at 2:30 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at Immaculate Heart Church on Saturday, Aug. 8 at 10 a.m., with Rev. Gerald Dunphy officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery.
