DURANT, Berthena M. – 90, of Parrsboro, Cumberland Co. passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at All Saints Hospital, Springhill. Born in Moose River, she was a daughter of the late Stewart and Beatrice (Hatfield) Roberts. She worked as a CNA at St. Vincent Guest House in Halifax for many years. She was a life member of the Rebecca Lodge and Order of Eastern Star. She was a lover of animals, especially cats and truly enjoyed a game of cards. She is survived by daughters, Doris Soley (Claude), Five Islands; Shirley Evans (Arch), Port Perry, Ont.; Marilyn Fullerton (Thane), Harrison Settlement; a son, Lewis, Parrsboro; a sister, Willena Dow, Moose River; sisters-in-law, Alice McLellan, Pictou and Frances Parsons, Parrsboro; 7 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, John W. Durant; a sister, Beulah; brothers, Langston and Lea; a step-sister, Kate; step-brothers, George, Will and Fred. Visitation 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, August 8, 2009 at St. George’s Anglican Church, Parrsboro, where funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Tory Byrne officiating. Burial in St. Marks Cemetery, Moose River. Memorial donations may be made to the Palliative Care of South Cumberland Community Care Centre, Parrsboro or to a charity of choice.
