New Glasgow - Edwin C. Wilson. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edwin C. Wilson of Carleton St., New Glasgow, on April 19, 2011.
Born on July 9, 1928 in Wilson’s Cove, Guysborough Co., he was a son of the late John and Mary (Hartling) Wilson. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who had a terrific wit and great sense of humour. He retired in 1991 from Maritime Tel. & Tel. after 42 years.
He was a proud member of the Telephone Pioneers. He was a former member of the Norton Lodge IOOF, New Glasgow, where he served as Noble Grand. He was also a former member of the LOL Orange Lodge, Ecum Secum. He was a member of St. George’s Anglican Church, New Glasgow, for over 50 years. An avid gardener, he loved the outdoors and loved spending time at his camp on Kirby Lake, fishing and hunting. He especially loved spending time at his cottage at Wilson’s Cove.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy (Clark); daughter: Susan (Larry) Morrison, New Glasgow; sons: Michael (Ramona) Wilson; Mark (Michelle) Wilson, both of Ottawa; grandchildren: Lisa Morrison (Nic Taylor), Dartmouth; Nicole (Peter) Walsh, New Glasgow; Brian (Brittany) Morrison, Lewiston, Maine; Charles Wilson, Eric Wilson, Olivia Wilson and Quinn Wilson, all of Ottawa; brothers: James (Edna), New Glasgow; Lawrence (Barbara), Liscombe; Morton (Ethel), Wilson’s Cove; sisters: Hazel (John Coughlan), Ottawa; Rosalie Burns, Cole Harbour; sisters-in-law: Beverly Wilson; Eileen Wilson, both of New Glasgow; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers: Harold, Fred (Eileen), Wilbert, Everett and Floyd in infancy; sisters: Winnifred (Harry) Dacey, Anna (William) Boutlier and Ada (Kermit) Young.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 pm Friday, April 22, in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
Funeral service 11 am Saturday, April 23 at St. George’s Anglican Church, New Glasgow with Rev. Bill White officiating. Burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
