Passed in: Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada

PFINDER, Gary Erroll - 57, of Dartmouth died tragically on August 3, 2009, as a result of a motor vehicle accident. He was the son of the late George (Bo Peep) and Rita (Richard) Pfinder. Gary valued education highly, completing his BSc, Teaching Certificate and later his MA in Education. This led to his very rewarding 33 year teaching career; first at Prince Andrew High and then at Dartmouth High for many years. He led the school ski club for years and enjoyed his participation in a school trip to Greece. Gary loved to travel and meet new friends. On two separate sabbaticals, he managed to first travel around the world and, later, to spend a year teaching at the University of Wuhan, China. When home, Gary was a curler and devotee of many cultural activities. He is survived by sisters, Iris (Archie) Black, Lower Shinimicas, their children Anthony, Jim, Duane Black and Nicole Frost; Michelle (Paul) McKenzie, Chester Basin, their children, Nicol Gyorfi and Alex Reid; brother in-law, Greg Reid; brothers, Rick (Bonnie), Toronto; Chuck (Kora), Orleans, Ont., their children, Charles Pfinder and Chrissy Morrison; and the children of deceased brother George Jr., Ruth and Cindy Pfinder and Krista O'Hearn; and "special family" Chris and Lynn Howes, their daughters Shelley, Stephanie, and grandson Ryland. Gary was a great friend to many but no more so than to his family, especially the children. Gary always made his nieces and nephews feel remembered, special and important. In following Gary's wishes, there will be no visitation and cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will take place in Blessed Pope John XXIII Church on Saturday, August 8, at 10 a.m., Father Erek Bem officiating. Burial in Amherst Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Atlantic Division would be appreciated. Send on-line condolences to: www.mem.com
