BEACH, Kenneth Clyde - Truro, died at home on Saturday, April 23, 2011, five days before his ninety-fifth birthday. Born in Windsor, he was the son of the late Clyde and Gertrude (Sweet) Beach. Ken was the husband of the late Jessie Beach (Ross), his beloved wife of 63 years. He was the fifth generation of John Beach of Gloucester, England who settled in NS prior to 1810. He is survived by his son, John Beach (Glenda), Valley; daughter, Joan McNutt, Bible Hill; son-in-law, Albert McNutt (Peter); grandchildren, Jason Beach (Kristen), Natalie Beach-Day (Bruce), Christopher McNutt, Jessica McNutt (Blake); precious great grandchildren, Parker and Gregor Beach. Also survived by his sister, Anna Cake (Bruce), sisters-in-law, Lorna Beach, Vivian Howell; brothers-in-law, John (Helen) Ross, Robert (Maxine) Ross; many nieces and nephews. “Grampy” will fondly be remembered by all of Solo Creek Farm. In addition to his parents and wife, Ken was predeceased by his twin brother, Ralph Beach; brother-in-law, Robie Ross (Verna). Ken graduated from Windsor Academy, a Silver W recipient. While still in school, his first job was ploughing snow in Windsor, using a team of horses. After graduating he worked as a truck driver, sold life insurance, then for 12 years he worked at Purdy Motors in Halifax. He enlisted into the Canadian Army in 1942 and was qualified in the Trade of Armament Artificer. In 1946 he returned home to work on the family farm in Stewiacke. From 1953 until 1975 he worked for Chrysler Canada, as the district service manager for the Atlantic provinces. Upon his retirement, into his nineties, he was able to enjoy his passion for wood working, furniture, refinishing antiques, caning chairs, and tinkering with motors. Ken was never bored. A man known for his endless patience, he was an inventor and innovator for any challenge life presented. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where a service to celebrate Ken’s life will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 26, 2011, Reverend Dan Gunn officiating. Reception will follow. Interment in Bible Hill Cemetery. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations to Colchester East Hants Hospice Society are welcomed.
