Born In: Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada
Born: August 13th, 1959

Passed in: Louisbourg, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: August 3rd, 2009

J.P. Gagne of Louisbourg passed away peacefully on Monday August 3, 2009 at home in the company of family.
Born August 13, 1959, he was the son of the late Robert Yvon and Yvette (Ducharme) Gagne from Ontario.
He is survived by sisters, Susan, Helen and brother, David all from Ontario. Left to mourn are Peter and Michele Somers, as well as their children, Mackenzie, Crewe, Eve and Reade. J.P. will be missed greatly.
J.P. began living with us in 1994 years before we started a family of our own in Ottawa, and he became part of our history. J.P. enjoyed many vacations to Cape Breton and in 1999 he moved to Louisbourg. We have met many caring friends who have accepted J.P. and his disability (Downs Syndrome).
In J.P.’s younger years he travelled to New Hampshire, Vermont , Florida, New York, and many other States with us. J.P. was an avid swimmer and enjoyed the family pool. J.P. never forgot a holiday or birthday and was what some people in this world should strive to be like!
J.P. wanted to be loved and needed a family as well as we the family needed J.P. and his ability to help us smile when times were rough. The last three years were tough on J.P. and he was slowing down, he had to leave Horizons Day Program and spend most of his days with family.
A special thank you to Stacey Boutilier from MacGillvary Guest Home, without her support J.P. would not have been at home when he passed...thank you again. Also the palliative care nurses and V.O.N. (Kelly) who made the house calls, and listened to our needs. Many thanks to family and friends who have listened to endless stories about J.P.’s care and how we need change to happen with health care for the elderly and the disabled populations.
Almost 50 years ago J.P.’s parents were told by doctors he would only live to be 20 years old and JP is proof that only God makes that decision. We love you J.P.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney with Pastor Sheldon Chant officiating. Interment in Hardwood Hill Cemetery. Reception to follow at 22 Wolfe St., Louisbourg.
