Roy Hunt
Born: August 11th, 1953
Passed on: October 17th, 2017
Roy Hunt, Of Shediac River, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at his home on, October 17, 2017, at the age of 64. Born in Silver Fox Island, NL on August 11, 1953, he was the son of Llewellyn and the late Ella Mae (Pickett) Hunt. Roy loved his family and will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 43 years Christine (Kean) Hunt, daughter, Michelle Anglehart (Claude) of Moncton, NB, and son, Michael Hunt (Katherine), of Wabush, NL. Roy loved and devoted his time to his grandchildren. "Grampy", as they called him, will be forever missed by Ryan, Ella, Owen and soon-to-be born Haley. He made a promise to continue to watch over them. Roy will be sadly missed by his brothers and sisters, Job Hunt (Cathy), Gail Grimes (late Harvey), Carl Hunt (Neta) all of Centerville, NL; Calvin Hunt (Gladys) of Labrador City, NL; Lisa Fraser (Harold) of Truro, NS. Also left to grieve are his uncles, aunts, cousins and his many nieces, nephews and special friends. Roy left an imprint on the hearts of all who knew him. His impact was positive and powerful. He leaves a huge void and will be greatly missed forever. Roy was predeceased by his mother, Ella Mae Hunt. Roy grew up in Silver Fox Island and experienced the resettlement of their home that was eventually relocated to Centerville, NL. He graduated from high school and moved to Wabush, Labrador City. It was in Wabush, in 1979 that he and Gerry Hunt established H&H Enterprises Ltd., which grew to include a fabrication shop, a transportation company (busing employees for the Iron Ore Company of Canada), then building to ground-breaking, snow clearing and general construction equipment including heavy equipment rentals and ready mix concrete sales. He was a very successful entrepreneur. Much of his success was built on risk-taking and honesty. He spoke highly of the Dale Carnegie course in Public Speaking and Human Relations and he felt that these were fundamental to his growth as an entrepreneur. He valued education and participated in many courses and seminars. Roy was heavily involved in the community and was president of the Rotary and Chamber of Commerce in Labrador West. He was also a member of the Canadian Federation of Independent businesses. In 2007, Roy "semi-retired" but remained CEO/President of H&H Enterprises. Once a little boy from the small island of Silver Fox, Roy travelled to the iron ore-rich land of Labrador West and built his dream. Roy was devoted to his wife who he shared a love at a tender age and their love continued to blossom. Together, they built a beautiful life and family and Roy cherished every moment they shared. Roy was a strong role model to his children and encouraged and supported them to make life goals and follow them through. His patience and love was a driving force behind them. He was very proud of his children. His grandchildren were his world. He spent many hours with them and they loved him as furiously as he loved them. Grampy asked them to continue their journey and work hard in all they do. When Roy wasn't spending time with his grandchildren, he enjoyed travelling with his wife. He loved walks on the beach and spending time in St. Pete's Florida. He also enjoyed playing cards and pool. He loved the great outdoors and took every opportunity to enjoy snowmobiling, hunting (caribou and moose), fishing and most of all boating and spending time in Lac Mingré with his buddies and at his cabin in Silver Fox Island. Roy had a unique personality that instantly radiated to anybody he met. His "happy-go-lucky" personality, his joy for life and his generous heart made him the special man he was. He was always willing to make life easier for those around him. He has touched so many people with his special ways and will be sadly missed by all.
