Helen Marie Broderick, of Riverview, passed away at her residence on Friday, August 7, 2009, at the of age of 67 years. Born in Tracadie, P.E.I., on November 9, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Ethel (McQuaid) Power. Helen was a former school teacher having taught in Morell, P.E.I. Helen was always involved in her community and church as her health permitted. At her church, she was a Ladies Society member, taught catechism, helped with baptism and marriage preparation, and volunteered with catechist formation at the Catholic Information Center. She also was active with Boy Scouts Canada as a leader and group committee member. With the MS Society, she volunteered by being a client services chair with the Moncton chapter who along with Atlantic Division of the MS Society recognized her service and presented her with the Mother of the Year Award. She is survived by her husband Charles Broderick; four sons: Anthony (Julie); Sean (Karen), all of Toronto, ON; Daniel (Susan) of Quispamsis, N.B.; Keith (Laurie) of Upper Tantallon, N.S.; sister Elizabeth (Phillip) Arbing of Marshfield, P.E.I.; brother Fred (Paulette) Power of Tracadie Cross, P.E.I.; four grandchildren: Claire, Dannan, Kyle, Aiden. She was predeceased by her sister Marion Power and infant son Geoffrey. Resting at Riverview Funeral Home, 214 Pine Glen Rd., on Monday, August 10, 2009, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Parish prayers will be held at 8:30 p.m. The funeral mass will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church on Tuesday, August 11, 2009, at 11 a.m. with Fr. Phil Mulligan officiating. Interment will be in Alderwood Cemetery. Donations may be made to MS Society or the donor’s choice would be appreciated by Helen’s family.
