Lorne Burton Barclay

Lorne Burton BARCLAY, of Minnedosa, Manitoba passed away 20 APRIL 2011, at the Minnedosa Hospital with family members at his side, at the age of 85 years.
Lorne was born 26 JAN 1926, at Wentworth, Nova Scotia. He was the only son of Carrie and Burton Barclay. He attended school at Wentworth and after graduation enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1944. After serving in Europe, he was discharged in 1946. He again enlisted in 1950 and severed in Korea returning to Canada in 1952, he continued his career in the Armed Forces until his retirement in 1970, aftercompleting 25 years, with the rank of Warrant Officer. During his service he was stationed in Montreal, Germany, Cobourg, Ont. and Greenwood, Nova Scotia.
Knowing he was to young to retire, he began another career with Kerr’s Control, a heating and refrigeration supply company, in Truro, Nova Scotia. He worked there for 20 years retiring from this company in 1989. It was during this period he and Eileen built their house in Lower Onslow. He took great pride in his lawn and garden.
Lorne and Eileen enjoyed travelling, with several trips to the sunny south, but most trips were made to Manitoba to visit their son and family. It was after several trips to Minnedosa, he and Eileen decided that they would like to move here. This move was made in 1998, residing in their present day home.
Lorne took great pride in being a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and became a Life Member . Up until the later years he would not turn down a request for his attendance or participation in Legion activities.
He and Eileen were active bowlers both here and in Truro, winning many prizes.
Lorne was a member of the United Church, being very active with the Lower Onslow, United Church.
He was a loving family man, enjoying the births of his grandchildren Courtney and Ryan, and special enjoyment of his great grandchild Izabelle, daughter of Courtney and James.
He is predeceased by his parents, mother Carrie, father Burton and sister Dorothy ( Maynard) Lynds. Parents-in-law Annie and Elsworth McGill, sisters-in-law Dorothy Cullen, Jean (Jim) Christie
He is survived by his wife of 61 years Eileen, son Don (Terry), grandchildren Courtney (James) and Ryan, and great grandchild Izabelle. Niece Carolyn (Brian) Aitkins and family. Cousins Ethel (Doug) Gilroy and Shirley (Doug) MacDiarmid and families Brother-in-law Don (Elaine) McGill and families. Sister-in-law Helen (Delbert) Goodwin and families. Nephews-in-law Rod and Gary Christie and families, And several other relatives.
A celebration of life was held the 25 APRIL 2011 from Minnedosa United Church with clergy Rev. Natasha Pearen officiating. Interment followed in the Veteran’s Plot Minnedosa Cemetery.
Honorary Pallbearers were members of the Royal Canadian Legion, and all in attendance were considered pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Minnedosa United Church Memorial Fund or Minnedosa Palliative Care Service or Charity of Choice.
Minnedosa Funeral Service was in care of arrangements.
