PROUDE, Susan Lynn - passed away at the Wolfville Nursing Home on Thursday, November 2, 2017. Born in Halifax in 1943, the only child of the late Lloyd and Minetta (Keenan) Proude, she was a lifelong resident of Nova Scotia, with strong ties as well to Prince Edward Island, where both her parents were born. Susan was a graduate of Halifax’s Queen Elizabeth High School and earned her BA and BEd degrees from Dalhousie University. She began teaching in Halifax County but then moved to Middleton and taught in Annapolis County for the rest of her career. Susan was a member and an Elder of St. John’s United Church in Middleton and served multiple times as a representative of her church at the Maritime Conference. In her final years at the Wolfville Nursing Home, she was welcomed by another kind and supportive community from the local United Church in New Minas. For many summers she was also an enthusiastic participant in Berwick United Church Camp. Susan belonged to TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) where she was crowned Provincial Runner-up Queen for her excellent weight loss. Susan suffered from several serious health problems and in 2012 she left Middleton to become a resident of the Wolfville Nursing Home. She is survived by cousins in various parts of Canada and the United States. Many thanks to the staff of the Wolfville Nursing Home who showed great kindness in their care for Susan over the last five years. Thanks also to the Emergency and ICU staff at the Valley Regional Hospital. By request, there was no visitation. A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 8th, 2017 at St. John’s United Church, Middleton with Rev. Karen Ralph officiating. A reception was held following the service in the Church Hall. Interment was in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton. By request, family flowers only.
