(1938 – 2011) - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Dad, John Howlett, age 73 years. After a courageous battle with cancer, he passed away at the Palliative Care Unit of the L.A. Miller Centre on April 27, 2011 in the presence of his loving son and daughter.
Jack as he was known worked on the CN boats for 21 years, then fished in his hometown of Petty Harbour until he devoted his life to caring for his beloved wife Mamie who passed away on February 1, 2011. He welcomed everyone with a pleasant smile and a home cooked meal.
He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by his son Douglas and daughter-in-law Margaret; daughter Jeannette and son-in-law Wayne Putt; grandchildren: Sarah Howlett (Chris Deir), Johnathan Howlett (Shannon Pottle), Christina Howlett (Shane Tulk), Genna Putt and Stacy Putt (Trent Best).
We are grateful to his brother Sam (Junior) and sister-in-law Mary who helped care for Dad and made him feel so comfortable. Also leaving to mourn are sisters: Mary Duke and Jennie Mahon; sisters-in-law: Marguerite Weir, Stella Evans (Murray), Joan Howlett and Joan Whitten; brothers-in-law are Cyril Whitten, Max Whitten (Blanche), Ronald Whitten (Gert), Leonard Whitten (June) and Victor Whitten (Barbara) and his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Jack is predeceased by his parents Sam and Mamie Howlett, sister Lydia Berman (Bernard) and brother William Howlett, brothers-in-law William Duke, Vince Mahon, Herbert Weir and Robert Whitten and sister-in-law Phyllis Whitten. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation on Thursday and Friday from 2 p.m. – 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, April 30th, 2011 at 10 a.m. from St. Kevin’s Church. Interment to follow at St. Kevin’s Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made to St. Kevin’s Church.
