SMITH, Darrell Richard “Hawk”, age 62 of Middleton, formerly of Kingston and North Kingston NS, passed away Friday, November 10, 2017 in Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Middleton, he was a son of Mildred (Kennedy) Smith and the late Paul Albert Smith. Darrell was previously employed with O.H. Armstrong, Kingston and later Larsens Meat Packers, Berwick. He enjoyed working with his father doing odd jobs and helping with gardening. He loved watching television; enjoyed country music and was an avid Elvis fan. Darrell will be sadly missed by his mother Mildred Smith of Paradise; sister Janise (Lloyd) Conrad of Sarnia, ON; brother Robert (Pat) Smith of Abbottsford, BC and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Paul in 2010 and his brother Barry in 1993. In keeping with Darrell’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service was held at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 18th, 2017 in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448 with Rev. Libby Amirault officiating. A reception for family and friends followed the service. Interment was in North Kingston Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice. The family would like to extend a thank you to Darrell’s good friend Jerry Morse of Kingston, who was there for Darrell and took him to his appointments and to his cousin Linda and Russell Riles of Melvern Square, who helped Darrell in so many ways. Also a sincere thank you to all the doctors and nurses at Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital for all their care and compassion shown to Darrell. Special thanks also to the Cancer Patient Navigator Dianna Hutt; Palliative Care nurse Janet Welton; Dr. Lori Burgess and the VON Annapolis Valley Branch for all the home visits given to Darrell. Thank you as well, to the pharmacists and staff of Pharmasave, Middleton for their care and compassion shown to Darrell during his illness.
