JACOBSON - It is with great sadness that Orval Jacobson's family announce his peaceful passing with family by his side at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Monday April 25, 2011 at the age of 82 years. He will be sadly missed by his brothers: Donald Jacobson of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta; Elmer Jacobson of Kyle, Saskatchewan, Henry (Inez) Jacobson of Red Deer, Alberta, sister-in-law Shirley Jacobsen and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Ole and Mathilda Jacobson; sister Dora Wick; brothers: Ralph Jacobson, Leonard Jacobson, and Norman Jacobson; sister-in-laws: Margaret (Maggie) Jacobson, Hilda Jacobson, Helen Jacobson and Dolly Jacobson; brother-in-law Stuart Wick: nieces Margaret (Peggy) Argue, Janet Hengstler, and Linda Jacobson; nephews: Jimmy Jacobsen and Brian Jacobsen. Orval was the seventh child born to Ole and Mathilda December 14, 1928 on their homestead east of Tuberose, SK. He attended Coteau School and completed grade eleven before leaving to help his parents on the farm. Along with brother Elmer he farmed his parents homestead and managed the Pool elevator in Tuberose for several years. In 1957 he purchased a ranch at Big Stone, Alberta where he enjoyed ranching for 33 years. In 1990 he retired to an acreage on the outskirts of Medicine Hat, with his beloved dog "Shep". He entered the Valleyview Care Center in 2005, where he resided until his passing. In his younger years Orval was very athletic, participating in many sports, but baseball and pitching was his passion. He loved ranching honing many skills, receiving numerous trophies and ribbons for the various contests in gymkhanas especially calf roping, flag picking and poles. His horses and dogs were his constant faithful companions. In his later years he was an avid baseball, hockey, curling and rodeo fan, enjoying watching them on television. The Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs have lost one of their greatest fans. He thoroughly enjoyed playing cards especially crib and up to two weeks before his passing he usually ended up with the most loonies. Funeral Services will be held at Clearwater Lutheran Church in Kyle, Saskatchewan on Saturday April 30th at 1:00 pm with Pastor Kirsten Soveran officiating. Interment will follow at Clearwater Lake Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to the S.P.C.A.
