It is with sadness what we announce the sudden passing of Benny Bennett, 67, of School Street, Glace Bay. Benny passing away at his residence on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of Jane (Penny) and the late Ben Bennett.
Benny was a coal miner for 40 years. He enjoyed playing baseball back in the day. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He always had a garden and spent time working around them. He was content sitting on the step, enjoying a cold beer, listening to the Rankins and having family and friends drop by. He enjoyed life to the fullest.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Sharon (Morris); mother, Jane (Penny); daughter, Sandra (John) Neil, Glace Bay; sons, Robert (Kirk), Glace Bay, Joey (Giselle), Alberta; brothers, Leo, Mike (Marcella), Jerry (Alice) Garfield, Alley, all of Glace Bay, Bill, Ontario; sisters, Ann (Charlie) Long, Sydney, Gloria Bennett, Glace Bay, Thelma King, Sydney; four cherished grandchildren, Samantha Neil, Brianna Neil, Ashly Neil and Dylan Bennett.
Visitation for Benny Bennett will be held 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13 at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 14 at Holy Cross Church with Fr. Conrad Edwards officiating. Cremation will follow. Interment will in the parish cemetery.
