Catherine Jane Blenkhorn
1925-2017
Catherine Blenkhorn, 92, of Athol, Cumberland County, died at Gables Lodge, Amherst, on Wednesday, November 29, 2017. Born in Amherst, Catherine was a daughter of the late George and Thelma (McDonald) MacKenzie.
Catherine lived all her life on the farm where she was born She was a great cook, having fed many at her table. She was an excellent seamstress, making most of her wardrobe. She had a green thumb and loved to garden, planting trees, flowers and shrubs to profusion.
She will be sadly missed by her husband of 71 years, Arnold Blenkhorn, Southampton; three children, David (Avis) Blenkhorn, Bedford, Allan (Jennifer) Blenkhorn, Halifax, and Ann (Michael) Almon, Halifax; a sister, Elizabeth MacKenzie, Saint John, NB; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren, and many wonderful friends.
Besides her parents, Catherine was predeceased by a sister, Jean (Ralph) Smith.
Arrangements are under the care and guidance of A.H. Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill (902-597-2361) from where visitation will be held on Monday, December 4, 2017 from 6-8 pm. A memorial service will be held at the Southampton United Church, Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at 2 pm with The Reverend Elizabeth Davies officiating. Burial will take place in the Southampton Cemetery. Following the burial a reception will be held at the Southampton Community Centre.
The family wish to thank those who helped Catherine in her time of need, Gables Lodge, Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, All Saints Hospital and High-Crest Nursing Home.
Donations in memory of Catherine may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
