It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of Donald MacIntyre, Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Laughie and Flora (MacRury) MacIntyre.
Raised in Louisbourg, Donald at a early age sailed the Lake boats, and later on became a stationary engineer for the National Sea Products, Louisbourg until his retirement. He was a volunteer fireman for many years, and was an honorary member of the Louisbourg Volunteer Fire Department.
Donald enjoyed family, travelling to visit friends, and listening to the adventures of his two grandchildren.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 55 years, Edith (MacKinnon); daughters, Flora (Robert) Couture, Sydney, Donna (Brian) Lahey, Albert Bridge; grandson, David, and granddaughter, Michelle. He is also survived by foster sisters, Margie (Archie) Parsons, Brickyard Road, Charlene (Ron) Anderson, Bedford and their families; stepbrother, Sanders (Caroline) MacIntyre, Albert Bridge and Mora (Mac) Estabrooke, Manitoba; as well as sister-in-law, Cora (Nick) Piccione, Texas; brother-in-law, Aubrey (Jean) MacKinnon, Bedford and their families.
Besides his parents, Laughie and Flora, Donald was predeceased by his foster parents, John and Mary MacRury, a sister in infancy, stepmother, Efiie (MacDonald) stepbrother Freddie.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Aug. 12 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 13 at the First United Church, Louisbourg, with Rev. Matthew Fillier officiating. Interment in Willow Grove Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Church or charity of choice.
