Helen Carleton

CARLETON: Helen Olive Carleton nee Truscott was born in Prongua, Sask at her grandparents' home on June 24, 1918 and died quietly, at her own pace on April 12, 2011 at the Gull Lake Care Centre. She was predeceased by her parents Charles and Mary Truscott, her husband Stanley and her brothers Lewis and George. She is survived by her sister Elizabeth Truscott Taylor and three generations of nieces and nephews. Helen grew up on her father's homestead, attended the local school, then completed high school in Battleford. She enrolled in Normal School in Saskatoon, graduating in 1941. She met Stanley during her second year of teaching. They married July 28, 1944 and resided in the Drummond Creek District for the next twenty five years then retired to Simmie in 1971. Helen remained in Simmie until 2006 when she moved to Swift Current. Her final three years were spent in Gull Lake. Helen was a serene and caring lady with a deep love for books, the piano (playing for her Church), house plants ( African violets were her favorite) and fine handwork. She was a multi-talented craftswoman who excelled at tatting. She was very generous with others, yet frugal with herself. She greatly enjoyed
visiting but was also content with her own company. Helen had many children in her life - the afore mentioned nieces and nephews,
her former students and the neighbor kids. Her nieces cherish memories of time spent with "Aunt Helen". She was a gentle presence in the lives of all who knew her and she will be missed. The funeral service was held Friday, April 15, 2011 from the Chapel of Warren's Funeral Home with Pastor Kristin Soveran officiating. The organist was Arlene Olson. Life Tribute was presented by Kourtney Robinson. Pallbearers were Aubrey Rouse, Glen Carleton, Larry Hopfner, Darvin Davidson, Everett Peterson and Melvin Larson. The interment service took place in the Admiral Cemetery. In her memory, memorial donations may be made to the Dr. Noble Irwin Health Care Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
