Mr. David Nick Andrusek passed away at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert on Monday, August 10, 2009 at the age of 87 years. Dave was born September 4, 1921 in the Samburg district near Prince Albert. As a young man, he worked on the family farm and then for a period of time he worked as a truck driver for a company based in Winnipeg MB. In 1946, Dave met Alice Holowaty at the wedding of Alice’s sister, Dora, to Dave’s brother, John, and on February 10, 1951, Alice and Dave were married. They resided in Prince Albert from that point on, and raised three children. In 1955, Dave along with his brother, George, and friend, Roy Lix, started their own business, L & A Plumbing and Heating, which operated for close to 35 years. Both before and after he retired, Dave and Alice spent more than 20 years traveling to Victoria BC for the winter months where they loved visiting with relatives and friends, and Dave was able to enjoy golfing nearly year round. Dave was an avid golfer and was a member of Cook Municipal Golf Club for many years. He enjoyed competing in tournaments in Prince Albert and at the Lobstick in Waskesiu and collected numerous trophies and prizes for his winnings, including several hole-in-one achievements. Dave was also a great fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and Saskatchewan Roughriders and always made a point of watching their games, as well as wrestling and golf matches on television in his later years. Dave is survived by his three children: Pat (Boyd) Bell of Enderby BC; Glynis (Greg) Sieber of Vancouver BC; Rick Andrusek of Prince Albert SK; by his Grandchildren: David Sieber and Erin Sieber, both of Vancouver BC; his Sister: Rose Moldowan of Prince Albert SK; his Brother: John Andrusek of Prince Albert SK; his Sisters-in-law: Lillian Parker of Edmonton AB; Verna (Wally) Vandale of Red Deer AB; Geraldine (Gordon) Petersen of Armstrong BC; Eva Holowaty of Cochrane AB; Gladys Holowaty of Surrey BC; Ruth Holowaty of Salmon Arm BC; Liz Holowaty of Calgary AB; his Brothers-in-law: Bill Holowaty of Revelstoke BC; Bob (Delorie) Holowaty of Wetaskawin AB; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
Dave was predeceased by his beloved Wife, Alice, in October 2002; his Parents: Metro and Margaret Andrusek; his Sisters: Mary Woroniuk, Sally Dickie and Sophie Smisko; his Brothers: Bill Andrusek and George Andrusek; his Sisters-in-law: Dora Andrusek, Mary Elchuk, and Nettie Petersen; his Brothers-in-law: John Woroniuk, Jim Dickie, Fred Moldowan, Max Smisko, Nick Holowaty, Leonard Holowaty, John Holowaty, Alex Holowaty, Tom Elchuk, and Charlie Parker; his Father-in-law and Mother-in-law: Dmetro and Irene Holowaty; as well as other relatives. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2009 at 10:00 am at the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 700 6th St. E. Prince Albert, SK.
