Born in Georgetown, P.E.I., he was a son of the late William and Nettie (Walker) Fitzgerald.
Chuck spent 30 years in the RCAF. He was an avid hunter and sports enthusiast and loved his dogs almost as much as his family.
He is survived by his wife, the former Susan Shewchuk; daughter, Karen (Tony) Hamilton, Halifax; son, Jason (Cindy), Kentville; sister, Gertrude (Billy) Murphy, Arnprior, Ontario; half-sisters, Fran Burke, Charlottetown; Kaye (Walter) Conohan, Seal River, P.E.I.; Mary Gauthier, Stanhope, P.E.I.; Adelle (Bob) Stewart, Cornwall, P.E.I.; half-brothers, Jimmie (Georgina) Fitzgerald, Oliver, B.C.; Lennie (Hilda) Fitzgerald, Chilliwack, B.C.; grandchildren, Alyssa, the "Apple of his eye" and Kyle, his "Right hand man". He was predeceased by his faithful companions, K.C., Jessie, Ginger, Riley and Chico.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, August 15, 2009, in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, (902) 825-3448, Rev. Deacon Don Boudreau officiating.
A reception for family and friends will follow the service.
