
Gabrielle Paradis
PARADIS - Gabrielle Marie (nee:Gelinas) passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2011 in the Foyer St. Joseph Nursing Home, Ponteix, SK at the age of 93 years. Gabrielle was born near Fort McLeod, AB on October 26, 1917. She attended school in various locations in southern Alberta and Saskatchewan. On April 23, 1936, she married Eugene Paradis, a farmer from Val Marie, SK, at the Val Marie Roman Catholic Church. Gabrielle didn't work outside the home but took her job as a housewife very seriously. She was an excellent pastry chef and gardener who canned chicken, beef and pork as well as fruit and vegetables before the advent of the deep freeze. Her kitchen was compared to a bakery as she baked two batches of 16 loaves each and every week. Gabrielle was a member of the Catholic Women's League and loved to play cards. She also enjoyed gardening and had a green thumb when it came to houseplants. Another love of hers was painting. She produced many lovely paintings, most of which were given to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Gabrielle was a very frugal person. She patched the kids clothing until they could be patched no more, then she used the patches for quilts. Gabrielle is survived by her children Annette (Louis) Nobert, Edgar (Marilyn) Paradis, Yolande Perrault, Laurent (Terri) Paradis, Raymond Paradis, Marcel (Teresa) Paradis, Huguette (Kelly) Lutz; her grandchildren Jocelyne (Wayne) Brattland, Roger (Gail) Nobert, Suzanne (David) Thomas, Doris (Lucien) Levesque, Wayne (Susan) Paradis, Janet Paradis, Gordon Paradis, Laurianne Perrault, Gisele Perrault, Michel Perrault, Vivian Duhamel (Dan), Simone (Robert) Jones, Jules (Ann) Perrault, Jacqueline Perrault, Malanie Frank, Candice (Steve) Bosch, Michael (Cheryl) Paradis, Robert Paradis, Brian Paradis, Ryan (Jolene) Paradis, Jennifer Paradis, Heather Lutz and Aaron Lutz; 27 great grandchildren; brothers Paul (Beryl) Gelinas, Joe Gelinas, Roger (Joyce) Gelinas, Roland (Meg) Gelinas and Johnny Gelinas as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Oscar and Louise Gelinas, husband Eugene Paradis, daughter Monique, sisters Madeline, Yvette, Rita and brother-in-law Pat Walsh, brother Peter Gelinas, son-in-law Victor Perrault and daughter-in-law Jane Paradis. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at 10:30 am from Notre Dame d'Auvergne Roman Catholic Church in Ponteix, SK with Father Raymond Carignan officiating. The crossbearer was Malanie Frank and granddaughter Vivian Duhamel performed a solo with the Catholic Women's League choir lending their voices. Pallbearers were Michel Perrault, Brian Paradis, Wayne Paradis, Ryan Paradis, Roger Nobert and Aaron Lutz. Interment was in the Notre Dame Parish Cemetery. Those wishing may make memorial donations in Gabrielle's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or to Foyer St. Joseph Nursing Home in Ponteix, SK.
