George ‘Butch’ Stoliar, 71, of Reserve Street, Glace Bay, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, Butch was the son of the late Nicholas and Abigail (Mahaney) Stoliar.
He retired from Atomic Energy of Canada in 1987. Butch was a member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay. An outgoing man; he belonged to the Sydney Curling Club, Ben Eoin Ski Club and the Lingan Golf Course. Butch also enjoyed spending his summers in Round Island at his summer home as well as travelling to Myrtle Beach to play golf.
He is survived by his wife, Coreen (McKinnon) Stoliar; one son, Andrew (Judy), Ontario; a brother, William (Florence), New Minas; three sisters, Lena MacKenzie, Damar Daye (Patrick), both of Glace Bay, Sherry Locke (Donald); P.E.I.; granddaughter, Isabella; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Butch was predeceased by sisters, Laura Cuzner, Mary Stoliar, Anne Baird, Rose Blunden and one brother, Nick.
Visitation will be held Sunday, from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Vernon Reid is Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay. A reception will follow in the church hall. Interment is at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
As an expression of sympathy for Butch, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Diabetes Association or a charity of one’s choice.
