Annie McInnis, a former resident of Maple Avenue, died Thursday, May 5, 2011, at the Victoria Haven Nursing Home.
Annie was born in Montreal and raised in Birch Grove, a daughter of the late John and Maria (Glowacki) Shewchuck.
She had been a longtime member of St. Anthony’s parish and St. Anne’s Sodality; a member of the garden club and enjoyed oil painting. She was an avid bridge player and was a teacher of handcrafts, particularly macramé at the Citizens Service League. In her younger years she enjoyed watching sports, was a political enthusiast and most of all she loved to dance. She baked many birthday and wedding cakes for family and friends.
A knowledgeable and charitable person, she made a multitude of friends over the years. She knitted over 100 preemie sets for the IWK for which she received a certificate for her kindness. She and her late husband, Tommy loved taking their relations and friends to the cottage in Framboise.
Aunt Annie had a zest for life that never failed to lift your spirits during any visit. She will be dearly missed.
She was also predeceased by her husband, Tommy McInnis, sister, Jennie (Eddie) Mleczko, brothers, Mike, William (Jean) and Steve, nephew, Billy Shewchuck and her aunt, Auntie Annie (Petneski) Drabek.
Annie is survived by her brother, Metrick ‘Met’ Shewchuck; sister-in-law, Margie (Shewchuck) Holman; and by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. (no visitation Sunday) in Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. The Funeral Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated 10 a.m., Monday in St. Anthony’s Church, Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. Reception after mass with burial to follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
