It is with deep sadness that we the family of Jonathan announce his passing on Aug. 14, 2009.
Jonathan was a member of the Blessed Kateri Tekawitha parish, Wagmatcook.
Born in Baddeck, Jonathan was the eldest child of Noel Michael and Mary Louise Bernard nee Googoo (Lindsay Marshall).
Jonathan loved the outdoors; fishing in rivers and lakes and hunting moose in the Highlands were his greatest passion. He was a kind young man who enjoyed his friends, family and the Elders in our community. Jonathan was raised by his grandparents Big Francis and Virginia Googoo of Wagmatcook.
Jonathan is survived by his sisters, Ashley Dawn and Michelle Carmelina Bernard (Isaac Francis) and his most cherished niece, Karmalyn Rose, Wagmatcook; his best buddy and cousin Jason MacDonald, Orangedale; grandmother, Mary Bernard, Waycobah; aunts, Nora (Louis) Isadore, Wagmatcook, Nancy (Randy) MacDonald, Orangedale, Elizabeth Toney, Josephine Googoo, Alice Bernard, Harriet Nicholas, Lucille Bernard, Waycobah, Sally Cope and Bellin Nicholas, Truro; uncles, Harvey, Jeffery and Alexander Bernard, Waycobah; godparents, Kji Keptin Andrew Denny and Ethylyn Peck.
He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Big Francis and Virginia Goo Goo, Wagmatcook, paternal grandfather, Andrew Bernard, his aunt, Mary (Molly) Googoo, uncle, Mathew Bernard, both of Waycobah, and aunt Brenda Marie Googoo, Wagmatcook.
Visitation will be at the family home at beginning at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18 on Number 10, Joegun Rd., Wagmatcook. The funeral will be held Thursday, Aug. 20, 11 a.m. at the Blessed Kateri Tekawitha Church, Wagmatcook with Rev. Robert MacNeil officiating. Burial will in the Wagmatcook Cemetery.
Following the graveside service there will be a celebration for Jonathan through a Salitey and Feast at the Wagmatcook Cultural Centre; everyone is welcome to attend.
