Bashow - Gary Allan, 74, of Liverpool, passed away peacefully in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool on Tuesday, December 19, 2017. Born in Liverpool, he was a son of the late Allan and Leola (Myers) Bashow. Gary was educated in the Liverpool schools (1948-1961) and attended Dalhousie University (1961-1965) and again from 1969-1970.He was a student employee at the Bowater Mersey Paper company Limited. He worked in Halifax at New Leaf Enterprises Sheltered Workshop then at the Dalhousie University Library. Later, he worked in Camp Hill hospital, department of Veteran Affairs and H.M.C. Dockyard, DND retiring in 1984 due to ill health. He was a life-long member of Zion United Church, Liverpool, a member of the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada, a member of the royal Canadian geographical Society, an associate member of the Canadian Wildlife Federation, a member of the Canadian Diabetes Association, a member of the Queens County Historical Society and a member of the Family History Group of Queens County. He was a former member of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, a former member of the American Topical Association, a former member of the Nova Scotia Stamp Club, a former member of the Halifax coin Club and former member of the Nova Scotia Mineral and Gem Society. At one time, Gary was active in badminton and tennis. He was a former member of the Liverpool Tennis and Badminton Clubs. He was a former member of the St. Andrew’s United Church Badminton Club, Halifax. Gary is survived by several cousins. Besides his parents, Gary was predeceased by both his maternal and paternal grandparents and several aunts and uncles. A private graveside committal service will be held at a later date in Zion United Cemetery, College Street, Liverpool with Reverend Carol Smith officiating. No flowers.
