MacDOUGALL, John David “Jack”-77, of New Minas, passed away peacefully, Thursday, May 5, 2011 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, surrounded by his children and grandchildren. Born in North Sydney, he was the eldest son of Betty (Edwards) MacDougall, North Sydney and the late Johnny MacDougall. He had been employed with Canada Packers for 43 years. He was an active member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Kentville, where he was involved in many aspects of the church community. He was a devoted father and grandfather, who loved to cook and enjoyed fishing, especially annual fishing trips with his brothers. He is survived by six daughters, Denise (Jamie) Snyder, New Minas; Sandra (Brian) Wentzell, Bedford; Janet (David) Payne, Therese (Scott) Forsythe and Karen (Danny) MacDonald, all of Kentville; Donna, Toronto; a son, Rob, Kentville; close family friend, Andrew Kellock; four brothers, Joe (Rilla), Bass River; George (Corrine), Sydney Mines; Jim (Shirley), Kitchener, Ontario; Greg, Calgary; 11 grandchildren, Mitchell, Kaitlyn, Hannah, Alison, Ethan, Isaac, Jack, Thomas, Connor, Erin and Morgan; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Geraldine “Gerry” Dooley; a brother, Cameron. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Sunday, May 8, 2011 with prayers held at 8:00 p.m., both in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2011 in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Kentville, Father Craig Christenson officiating. Burial took place in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Kentville. A reception followed in St. Joseph’s Parish Centre. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or the Canadian Cancer Society.
