MURDOCK – Robert “Bob” Allan, 87 passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at the Palliser Regional Care Centre in Swift Current, SK. He leaves his wife of 64 years, Helen (Best) Murdock; his daughters, Dawn (Gordon) Dick, Lesley (Barry) Kowbel, Marsha (Craig) Van Buskirk, Shannon (Brad) Klassen; grandchildren, Reuben Dick, Phedra Milne, Rachel Kowbel, Alexis & Jessica Van Buskirk, Lori Shaw –Dyck, Courtney and Keagen Lockwood, Braeden and Chelsea Klassen; great-grandchildren, Bryton Milne, Dayton Dyck and Taryn Herbison; sisters Brownie Weppler and Barbara Fech and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Bob is predeceased by son, Robert and daughter Tracy Lockwood. Bob was born in Morse, SK on June 22, 1923 to Rachel and Alex Murdock. He attended school at Lady Bank and Log Valley. In 1941 he attended Aeronautical Youth Training School in Moose Jaw and joined the RCAF in 1942 as an Aero Engine Mechanic and was stationed in Manitoba. Following his discharge in 1944, he attended the University of Saskatchewan for a short course in Agriculture. He returned to the family homestead to help his father farm and on October 12, 1946 married Helen Best. Bob was always involved in the communities of Glen Kerr and Morse, serving on many committees and boards through the years – Royal Canadian Legion, Credit Union, Sask Pool, Lady Bank School, Morse Rural Telephone Company, BPOE and NDP. Bob and Helen raised their girls on the farm north of Morse until 1986 when they retired to Swift Current. Bob enjoyed bowling but he loved to read and do woodwork. He was a prankster, loved a good joke and always had a ready hug for all his girls. He loved to chase, tickle and tease his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him. A gathering of family and friends will be held June 25, 2011 at the Morse Community Hall at 3:00 p.m. Donations may be made to the Palliser Regional Care Centre Activity fund or to the charity of the donor’s choice in memory of Bob Murdock.
