Passed on: April 30th, 2011

DICKS, Cyril Augustus — 91, of Windsor, Hants County, passed away Friday, April 30. Born August 31, 1919 to Cyril Dicks Sr. who passed away in 1919 of the Spanish Influenza and Melvina (Michelin) (Bonn) who died in 1922. Cyril's youth was spent in Jeddore where he began to work clearing brush. This early work was to inform and influence his life: the harder he worked, the more he enjoyed it. His children inherited his passion for an honest day's work. Cyril Jr., Marilyn and Deanna were given a respectable workload, teaching them early the value of responsibility. His wife, Pearl (Thompson) of 64 years was both his best friend and business partner for 25 of those years at Pine Crest Poultry Farm Inc. After working as a stevedore on the Halifax waterfront, they moved to Ellershouse in Hants County — the area where Pearl had spent her youth. Cyril was a Second World War veteran and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Hants County Branch No. 009, Windsor. He is survived by son, Cyril M. Dicks (Helen Lynn Green), Ancaster, Ontario; daughters, Marilyn S. Jarvis (James), Debert, and Deanna Silver (Robert), Vancouver, BC; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Cyril was predeceased by loving wife, Pearl (Thompson); and half-brother, Melvin (1945). Arrangements were entrusted to Lohnes-DeMont Funeral and Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor, where visitation was held from 12-2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3. The Royal Canadian Legion held a tribute service at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 3, followed by the funeral service and reception, where the Rev. Jeffrey White officiated. Private family burial was held in Ste. Croix Cemetery at a later date. Family flowers only, by request, however donations in memory of Cyril may be made to a charity of one's choice. Private messages of condolence may be sent to the family by visiting the online Guest Book at www.familycare.ca.
