HOLMES, Donald Carleton — 84, of Windsor, Hants County, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 7, 2011, in the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on October 22, 1926 he was a son of the late Ralph and Helen (Armstrong) Holmes. Donald was predeceased by friend, Argakussumah, and sister, Marion Parker. He is survived by his spouse, Richard Richard, his brother Darrell (Sylvia) and daughter, Lisa Albert. He is also survived by brother-in-law, Ken Parker; nieces, Cindy Northup (Wayne), and Karen Jodrey (Brad); and nephew, Derreck Parker (Novalea). Donald graduated from Acadia and Dalhousie universities with a Bachelor of Commerce. During his life, Donald worked for the United Nations, serving two tours in Burma, one tour in Afghanistan and two tours in Indonesia. The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff of Unit 500 at the Hants Community Hospital. Arrangements for cremation were entrusted to Lohnes-DeMont Funeral Service Ltd., 419 Albert St., Windsor, where the family received visitors from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, April 9. There was no service by family request. Family flowers only, however, donations in memory of Donald may be made to the Hants Community Hospital Palliative Care, 89 Payzant Dr., Windsor, NS, B0N 2T0, the Canadian Cancer Society, 5826 South St., Halifax, NS, B3H 1S6 or to a charity of one's choice.
