WIER, Dora Melinda — 100, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2011, in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor, with family by her side. Born in Centre Rawdon, she was a daughter of the late Edmund and Annie (Webber) Wier. Dora grew up on her father’s farm and later worked as a store clerk in Halifax. For several years, she owned and operated a small grocery store in Wellington Station. Upon moving to Windsor in the early 1950’s, Dora joined Nova Scotia Textiles where she worked for 19 years before retiring at age 65. She was an active member of the West Hants Historical Society and the Windsor Gliders. Dora always enjoyed outings with friends or family in search of interesting historical sites or a good berry patch. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was predeceased by her four sisters, Myrtle Wier, Lillie Wier, Nettie Mason, and Bertha Deal; nephews, Ralph and James Mason and Earl Deal. Surviving are nieces, Greta (Carl) Priest, Halifax, and Gwen (Doug) Peck, Lower Sackville; nephews, Lloyd (Thelma) Mason, Stittsville, ON, and Royce Deal, South Rawdon; 10 great-nephews and nieces; and 18 great-great-nephews and nieces. Dora’s family sends special thanks to the staff of Dykeland Lodge for their wonderful care over the past eight years. Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Lohnes-DeMont Funeral and Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., PO Box 981, Windsor, NS, B0N 2T0, where the funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 17. Rev. Debra Mosher will be officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home's Elmcroft Reception Centre. Interment will be held in St. Paul's Anglican Cemetery, Centre Rawdon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Friends of Dykeland Lodge, 124 Cottage St., Windsor, NS, B0N 2T0 or to a charity of one’s choice.
