John Donald (Jack) Morrison

John Donald (Jack) Morrison of Baddeck Bay passed away peacefully Friday, January 12, 2018 at Alderwood Rest Home. Born May 10, 1940 Jack was the son of the late Ranold and Annie (nee MacPhee) of Baddeck Bay.
Jack grew up in Baddeck Bay and later lived in Halifax, Truro, New Glasgow and a short time in Boston, MA. 36 years ago Jack, with his new bride Pat, moved back to The Bay. Jack worked at several jobs, but the one he enjoyed the most was entertaining. He began singing when he was three and never stopped! He sang and played piano throughout Canada and the US. In the 60’s he with a number of his friends became known as The Tune Weavers and were the entertainers of choice for many local events. Independently, Jack recorded his first album ‘Cape Breton by the Sea’ also in the 60’s. There were two albums in the form of CDs to follow later in life. At family gatherings, if you had a piano, lively singing with Jack would begin and was enjoyed by all! Jack was an organist and choir director for many churches in the Baddeck and Bras d’Or area and taught piano to many students for many years. Jack never stopped singing and playing the piano!
Jack is survived by his step-daughter, Isabel Covin; step-son, Gordon (Linda) Covin; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and brother-in-law, Roddie (Wendy) Morrison. He is also survived by his niece, Anna Marie (Brian) MacNevin; nephews, Gordon, John (Darlene) and Ronnie MacLeod, and cousins, Reggie and Roy (Gillian) MacPhee.
Jack was predeceased by his wife, Patricia (Linden); his sisters, Neilene and Evelyn and niece, Cathy.
Visitation will be held at MacAskill Funeral Home, 45 Grant St., Monday, January 15, 2018 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
The Funeral will be held at the Greenwood United church Tuesday, January 16 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Louis Ihasz officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to Alderwood Rest Home, Baddeck, NS.
